On Revelation: The King Is Coming

Revelation is a captivating book. And indeed "the greatest book of apocalyptic literature" to be ever written. John, the beloved apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, wrote this book to the Churches of Asia Minor from the Island of Patmos in c. A.D. 95. [Concerning the authorship of this book has long been debated by some scholars].

This action-filled book is panorama of the future unfolds. It must be mentioned also that Revelation is a huge literature to the study of eschatology, i.e., the end times. Countless scholars have different views concerning the coming of Christ. But we will not look into those views here, as it were.

The core message of Revelation (Gk. apokalypsis) is it unveils that which was disclosed before but now is made open, that is, "Revelation unveils the unseen spiritual war in which the church is engaged: the cosmic conflict between God and His Christ on the one hand, and Satan and his evil allies (both demonic and human) on the other."

The book climaxes and shows Christ Jesus has won it all. The King of kings and Lord of lords. Every knee will bow down to Him. Both the righteous and the wicked alike. The righteous out of praise, awe, and adoration. But as for the wicked, out of fear, trembling and their eternal humiliation.

The key word in this book is, Witness (Gk. marturia). The key verse that ties the message of the whole book is,

Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter.

– Revelation 1:19.
And thus we're done with the New Testament book-by-book overview.
